Ghent and Kanazawa have been sister cities since 1971, and they have had artistic, economic and administrative relations for 150 years. In the framework of this successful cooperation agreement, the city of Kanazawa will be designing a Japanese garden at the 2016 Ghent Floralies.

Akane Teshigahara


Akane Teshigahara is one of the big names at the Ghent Floralies. This international floral artist became the fourth “Iemoto” (headmistress) of the Sogetsu School in 2001.

She presents “Iemoto Ikebana Live” at various locations throughout Japan. In addition to this she works with artists from various disciplines, such as dancers, musicians, calligraphers, etc. For more than 20 years she has been a driving force behind the “Akane Junior Class”, through which she helps children develop their sensitivity through ikebana. She has also been a guest lecturer at Joshibi University of Art and Design since 2014.
